Donations Boost Center

DUNCAN — Companies, foundations and individuals have stepped up to help make the Southwest Regional Cancer Center a reality.

At Tuesday morning’s groundbreaking for the new facility on the Duncan Regional Hospital campus, donors were recognized for their part in the process.

DRH CEO and President Scott Street thanked everyone who had contributed, noting that the dream of bringing specialized, state-of-the-art care for cancer patients home wouldn’t have been possible without such giving.

Dave LeNorman, CEO for Crusader Energy, and his parents Duane and Margaret LeNorman of Tyler, Texas, were recognized for their involvement. Crusader donated $1 million in memory of Dave’s daughter and Duane and Margaret’s granddaughter, Taylor.

Tom and Monica McCas-land donated $500,000 and the McCasland Foundation another $1 million.

In honor of their contributions, Street announced that the facility will be named the Taylor LeNorman / McCas-land Cancer Center.

Marilyn McEnroe was recognized for her contribution in honor of her parents. Her donation will purchase the linear accelerator room. She herself is a cancer survivor.

Chesapeake Energy’s $250,000 contribution will build the atrium lobby.

Those contributions, and other donations from the community, will help build and operate the facility here. Similar efforts will also build facilities in Lawton and Altus as part of a partnership between Duncan Regional Hospital, Comanche County Memorial Hospital and Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

The Duncan Regional Hospital Health Foundation has hosted a number of public events and fundraisers, including a benefit golf tournament, an art exhibit and sale, an October “Odyssey for Hope” gala and the recent concerts by the singing group Point of Grace.

All three hospitals are hosting the Spirit of Survival Marathon, at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Run Oct. 14-15.

Duncan Regional will also host a spring 2007 gala.

A donor and pledge drive continues.

Foundation Executive Director Brenda Finkle noted that all money raised locally stays local.
“By having our own center, we can offer improved cancer care, convenience and oncology expertise, all right here at home.”
