The bridge from East Broadway to the campus of JCMH is complete

Construction is underway on the Jackson County Memorial Hospital campus for the new Southwest Oklahoma Cancer Centers. The bridge-culvert structure into the campus from East Broadway is complete. Concrete aprons will be added to each end of the culvert. Construction on the new boulevard entrance from Broadway Street will occur during April.

The cancer centers in Altus and Duncan, when completed, will join with the center in Lawton currently in operation. Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Duncan Regional Hospital in Duncan and Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton are partners in the Southwest Oklahoma Cancer Centers. Altus and Duncan will each have a 10,000 square foot center to provide chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Each will install a state-of-the-art Varian linear accelerator equipped with IGRT radiation therapy. IGRT stands for Image Guided Radiation Therapy, one of the latest advancements in radiation treatment.

After a patient's diagnosis, an initial assessment will be completed at the Lawton location. Treatments will be provided locally at either of the cancer centers depending where a patient lives. Medical and radiology oncologists are on staff at the Lawton facility of the Southwest Oklahoma Cancer Centers and will coordinate each patient's treatment at the Altus, Duncan and Lawton cancer centers. Physicians on staff are Manal Robin, M.D., Nadim Nemeh, M.D., Mittie Dragosljvich, M.D. and James Ziegler, M.D.

Wilson, President and Chief Executive Officer at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus." The impact we want to have on people battling cancer is the availability of cancer care right here at home." "Patients don't want the added burden of long-distance travel for their treatment."

Construction on the cancer center on the JCMH campus will begin at the completion of the boulevard entrance. "We should see exterior walls going up in May," stated Wilson. "With the project on schedule, our goal is to have it completed by mid 2008."
